Scalable Solution Allows Operators to Cost-Effectively Convert to All-Digital Now and Add New Services Over Time
August 26, 2014 San Diego, California
Pico Digital, a worldwide leader in providing comprehensive multi-media delivery solutions to customers in the broadband, satellite, cable, and broadcast markets, today announced that the company will be showcasing its CONDOR set-top box platform and headend broadcast system at Andina Link Central America 2014, taking place Sep. 2-4 in San Jose, Costa Rica. An affordable solution for cable systems of every size, the upgradeable CONDOR system allows cable providers to efficiently convert to all-digital today, while adding new services over time with Pico Digital's future-proof middleware.
In booth 26 at Andina Link Central America 2014 - a leading exhibition for cable television and convergent technologies in the region since 1995 - Pico Digital will be highlighting its CONDOR all-digital solution. With CONDOR, cable operators can bolster their offering with new value-added services that meet their subscribers' entertainment and connectivity needs - such as HDTV channels, secure adult entertainment, and high-speed broadband Internet - while enabling the introduction of tier-based packages. Built on extensible thin client technology, CONDOR allows the use of low-cost set-top boxes while enabling operators to add new services easily and quickly, including broadcast interactive services and push VOD, and future OTT services and VOD content.
For subscribers, CONDOR delivers the improved video and audio quality provided by digital TV technology, while offering a content discovery system that allows them to easily and conveniently navigate available content choices. This system is designed to connect viewers with content that is relevant to them, while enabling operators to showcase their own unique offering. An easy-to-use, customizable Electronic Program Guide (EPG) shows viewers what's on TV and allows them to bring up detailed information about programs of interest, while providing operators with the opportunity to generate advertising revenue. Subscribers can record their favorite programming using the set-top box's personal video recorder (PVR) and easily access recorded content via a Library screen.
CONDOR provides operators with the convenience and speed of remote activation/deactivation, while offering a compact form factor to save space and reduce headend power and cooling needs. In addition to upgradeable set-top boxes, the CONDOR headend can be customized to fit any operator's channel line-up and scrambling needs with an optimal combination of encoders, transport stream converters, video edge QAMs, and access servers. Pico Digital also provides tools for data ingestion, content aggregation, play-out, and service monitoring, as well as managed services that can interface with an operator's existing customer management and billing systems.
"Pico Digital has a long history of introducing powerful, cost-effective solutions at Andina Link, and with our CONDOR system on display this year is shaping up to be our best showing yet," said Carlos Shteremberg, president of Pico Digital. "Visitors to our booth will learn how CONDOR allows for the delivery of the digital media experience subscribers expect at an exceptionally low cost. We can't wait to see our customers in Central America and show them how this flexible, scalable solution is designed to meet their needs now and in the future."
